A very serious appeal by Guinea’s main opposition party to the Armed Forces in a desperate attempt to prevent tomorrow’s elections and subvert democracy in the country. In a public appeal that also appeared on social networks, Cellou Dalein Diallo, leader of the Union des Forces Démocratiques de Guinée (UFDG), appealed directly to the leadership of the Guinean Armed Forces in an attempt to persuade them to dismiss the government in office. Diallo’s speech was a serious one, but it also shows the sense of his desperation in the face of a country that is peacefully on the way to the referendum vote in which the new Guinean constitution will be approved for the first time in the history of this country.

Fortunately, neither the squares nor the Armed Forces seem to have listened to Diallo’s crazy appeal. A proof of the maturity of Guinean democracy which seems to be oriented towards following President Alpha Condé’s invitation to a democratic and peaceful confrontation between the parties and to go to the polls to express peacefully each one’s will.

In a speech to the nation, President Condé reminded his fellow citizens that the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) has accepted all the suggestions of the CEDEAO, the African Union’s organization, and the OIF (Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie) and that tomorrow’s vote will take place according to the broadest democratic guarantees for the country.
